SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (SES)
SES at a glance: Private tutoring paid for by the school that is available to students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals at school. 1st Enrollment Window -- REQUEST FORMS DUE SEPT. 25, 2009 As a school in Year 2 of School Improvement under the State Accountability System (see School Improvement on left menu), JES is required to offer Supplemental Educational Services to students who are eligible for free/reduced-price meals at school. Supplemental Educational Services are academic support services, such as tutoring, which take place outside of the school day and are designed to increase student academic achievement. These tutoring services are not affiliated with Johnson Elementary School or our faculty. Only professionals approved by the Vermont Department of Education may provide these services. Supplemental Educational Services are offered free to eligible students; however, there is a cap on the amount of money that we may spend on any individual child. Further, families are responsible for providing transportation for these tutoring services.
Your child only needs to qualify for, not actually participate
in, the Free and Reduced Price Meals program to be eligible for these free
tutoring services. If you wish to apply
for free or reduced price meals, an application was included in the Forms Packet
your child brought home the first week of school, or you may call the office to request an application. (635-2211 ext. 0) Attached below is a list of Supplemental Educational Services providers who have been approved by the Vermont Department of Education. Parents may select the provider of their choice from the list. Johnson Elementary School will work with parents and tutoring organizations to create a contract that sets tutoring learning goals, establishes criteria to monitor progress, and defines the terms of payment to the provider. The tutoring contract will be customized for each individual student who receives this academic support. To obtain these tutoring services, you must complete the attached application for Supplemental Education Services and return it the main office by Friday, September 25, 2009.
If you have any questions, please contact Principal David Manning at 635-2211 ext. 210.
